چکیده

Fluid flow problems with moving boundaries are one of the challenge problems to be solved in this decade. Our target is oriented to develop a finite element code to simulate the fluid flow inside the cylinder of an internal combustion engine in order to understand how this flow field is related with the combustion, the heat release and the intake and exhaust charging process. In this paper we only present some preliminary results using the ALE technique coupled with a stabilized finite element method applied to compressible fluid flow problems with moving boundaries.

A Stabilized Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian Finite Element Method for the Mixed Wave Equation with Application to Diphthong Production

Though most engineering problems in acoustics directly deal with the wave equation in its irreducible form, in many situations it becomes interesting to consider it in mixed form [1], so as to directly account for both, the acoustic pressure and the acoustic velocity fields. A particular case is that of waves propagating in domains with moving boundaries. When attempting a finite element soluti...

Unified Analysis of Finite Element Methods for Problems with Moving Boundaries

We present a unified analysis of finite element methods for problems with prescribed moving boundaries. In particular, we study an abstract parabolic problem posed on a moving domain with prescribed evolution, discretized in space with a finite element space that is associated with a moving mesh that conforms to the domain at all times. The moving mesh is assumed to evolve smoothly in time, exc...

Analysis of a Stabilized Finite Element Approximation of the Transient Convection-Diffusion Equation Using an ALE Framework

In this paper we analyze a stabilized finite element method to approximate the convection-diffusion equation on moving domains using an arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) framework. As basic numerical strategy, we discretize the equation in time using first and second order backward differencing (BDF) schemes, whereas space is discretized using a stabilized finite element method (the orthogona...

A multiscale/stabilized formulation of the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations for moving boundary flows and fluid–structure interaction

This paper presents a multiscale/stabilized finite element formulation for the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations written in an Arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian (ALE) frame to model flow problems that involve moving and deforming meshes. The new formulation is derived based on the variational multiscale method proposed by Hughes (Comput Methods Appl Mech Eng 127:387–401, 1995) and employed in ...

Application of Decoupled Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method to Solve Eigenvalue Helmholtz Problems (Research Note)

A novel element with arbitrary domain shape by using decoupled scaled boundary finite element (DSBFEM) is proposed for eigenvalue analysis of 2D vibrating rods with different boundary conditions. Within the proposed element scheme, the mode shapes of vibrating rods with variable boundary conditions are modelled and results are plotted. All possible conditions for the rods ends are incorporated ...
